Hi I’m Jason from the brand Blockout Blinds and today I’m going to talk about putting awnings over two windows at once.
0:19 –The benefits of having one awning over two windows
We all know that awnings are fantastic for keeping out the heat.
In fact, there’s nothing that really does a better job at keeping the heat out because the awnings being on the outside of the house, stop the sun heating the glass which is the whole reason your house gets hot. Now, these days we have a lot of houses with long skinny windows side by side or sometimes long windows above and below each other, which we need to put awnings on.
So let’s have a look at this first photo. Here you can see a house that’s half weatherboard and half brick, and typical scenario where the sun sets behind this house and the house gets extremely hot. Now the two little windows on the side there with the weather board, you could put an awning on the top one and the bottom one but that would look silly, and two it’ll be hard to put the one on top up and down because it’s above the other one. You might have the same scenario when you have a window at the left and a window at the right, and there may be space to part wide about a meter.
Some companies will put one blind on each one, which is fine; they sometimes forget to offer the solution to putting one blind over the two windows. And this has two benefits: one, if both the windows are in the same room, you generally want the awning up or down. So, by having one awning you only have to put one awning up and down, not two. Also, by covering the space in between the windows, you’re covering more of the house and keeping the house cooler. If you have two separate awnings side by side, the sun would still hit the bricks or timber in between the two windows and heat up.

And here you can see we have the awning over the two windows and in fact it makes it look like there’s only one window there when the awning is down. And we also have the awning on the brick on the side as well. The customer here has gone for a screen fabric, which lets through the light, and we coordinated the pelmet at the top with the colour of the house, which looks great because it blends in. And we’ve coordinated the awning fabric colour with the edging of the timber around the front entrance there, which looks fantastic.
So there you have it just a few more ideas of how you can put awnings up and keep your home cool.
I hope you found this interesting and until next time…
