Discover How Blinds Can Create Privacy While Maintaining A View

In this week’s video update:

00:10 – Creating privacy and maintaining a view
00:46 – Use roller-type blinds to avoid prying eyes
01:15 – The mirror-like effect of behind-the-glass blinds
02:07 – Use vertical blinds to have a view outside
02:37 – Venetian blinds can be angled for a nice view
03:02 – Plantation shutters is a more flexible option

Hi everyone I’m Jason from BlockoutBlinds and I hope you’re having a good day. I’m going to be talking today about creating privacy in your windows while still maintaining the view.

Option 1 – Roller Blinds

Now we all have windows or we may have windows that we don’t want prying eyes looking in but we might still want to be able to see outside so we can see what’s going on and enjoy the view or the garden or whatever it may be. And we may also want to still enable light to come in because during the day the last thing is your blinds down for privacy and it feels like you’re living in a cave because it’s so dark and you got to turn the lights on. So what do we have? We have a few options.

Now probably the first option which is the most popular now and probably the most modern looking is to do a roller type blind. It rolls down and it’s actually in a material that is a screen material or a mesh material – have little holes in it – so what that means is that you have that blind down during the day, the light still comes through and puts some light into the home. It creates a nice atmosphere.

But whilst doing that you can still look outside which is fantastic. Now because it’s behind the glass and during the day, from outside it sort of creates a nearer like fit so anyway, anyone outside trying to look in can’t see in at all which is fantastic. Now the only catch with this type of blind and some people have not realized this is that when you have them down at night time – when you’re inside – and there’s a light inside and dark outside you can’t see out but yes, you can see inside from outside just as clearly as you could’ve seen outside during the day. So don’t get caught-up with this thinking that the blinds are down and you’re safe from prying eyes cause at night time, you’re not. Because of this, if you’re worried about people looking in at night time we suggest you put a separate blind up over the top that you might pull down for night time use to completely block the view.

Option 2 – Vertical Blinds

Now some other options that we can use are the vertical blinds and these are blinds that hang vertically hence, vertical blinds – pretty obvious. And they have slabs that rotate like this. They can be angled at certain positions so that you can see out and sort of camouflage seeing in. But because they hang vertically, at some point when you walk past can see through so nowhere near as good as the screen option.

Option 3 – Venetian Blinds

The next one is really any of your venetian type blinds. These obviously have slots going across that can be angled. So you can angle just like such so you can see out but anybody that walks past looking in really can only see up to the roof so still sort of can see in but they can’t look directly at you.

Option 4 – Plantation Shutters

Also we have our plantation shutters. Once again these have louvers which are light slots same as the venetians. The only difference is that they’re a little bit more flexible because we can have the louvers, for example, at the bottom half of the blind moving independently to the top half of the blind. So what some people like to do is have these at the front windows of the home that overlook the street – the bottom and the top move independently – so they may have the bottom louvers angled down so they can see out but people can’t see directly in. And then for the louvers that are waist high, they might have them angled down like this so the sun will come in and maximise the sun and make them see out but people can’t see in. So the plantation shutters show a little bit more flexibility than the venetians because you can split the control of the louvers which is a really good idea.

Choose what’s best for you

So there you have it, there’s the main ways that we can keep the privacy while maintaining the view and off that the screen roller blinds are probably the best option but it depends on what you’re after and what works best with you. So I hope you found that useful, if not, doesn’t matter. Till next time.
