0:26 – Introduction
Hi, I’m Jason from the brand Blockout Blinds, and today I’m going to show you this one solution for an inwards-opening door.

0:17 – How can we cover an inward opening door with windows on the side?
Now look, at Blockout Blinds we’re committed to training our design consultants so they have the absolute highest product knowledge in the industry. And unfortunately there are a lot of companies where the design consultants have absolutely no product knowledge at all. And I’m going to show you a situation now where product knowledge really comes to play and what’s important to have a design consultant that knows what they’re talking about.

So let’s have a look at this photo here; what you’ll see is we have a door going out to a balcony so we’re one with a second storey. Beside the door are two windows, the windows higher above the floor than the door is, obviously. And the door opens inwards.

Now most doors do open inwards. So there’s a few ways you can approach a situation like this and what the average person would say would be “alright, we’ll put one blind on the window on the left, one blind on the window on the right, and one blind actually mounted on the door just covering the glass and the blind come down behind the handle on the door”. Now that’s fine. But you know; you’re going to have lots gaps of light coming through where all the blinds sort of end and start.

So, because this door is going out to a balcony, we know that to go out; you can put the blind up, go outside, come back and put the blind down.

If this is a door going outside to a yard or something and you have the possibility of people coming in from outside without having to go out first, you would definitely want to have the blind mounted on the door. Cause the last thing you want is someone coming from outside and the blind is not on the door and you smash the blind with the door.

2:02 – So what’s our solution for an inward opening door?
Well, what we decided to do here was we thought; let’s just put one big blind all the way across the top so it covers all the windows.

Here you can see we have one blind all the way across. Now what we’ve done is we’ve rolled the fabric off the front of the blind and what that does that brings the blind folded to the handle of the door so it rolls in front of the handle.

And also we’ve put some brackets on the sides that are 15mm longer than normal just to bring it out that little bit more. Now when this blind is down on the inside, it just looks like one big window and the blind would go all the way down to the floor. You don’t have any gaps between blinds so it blocks out more of the darkness and as you can see this is a bedroom so blocking out light was important thing.

2:51 – Product Knowledge that meets your desired needs
So this is much better solution for this customer and as I said; because it’s a balcony, we don’t have the fear of someone walking from outside to inside while the blind is down. So there you see you can have a couple of ideas or couple of different ways to put blinds over the same windows. And that’s where it really comes down to the product knowledge of your design consultant. So you get the desired result that works best for you.

So I hope you found this interesting and until next time.
