How to Dress Up Plantation Shutters

Today we’re going to take a look at “How to Dress Up Plantation Shutters”

Plantation shutters make a room feel rich, warm, and elegant. Or it can make the room feel sleek and modern, depending on the colour. A wooden plantation shutter gives a rich warm feel, with the wood grains and colour. It would be well to match it to the woods in the room. A shutter that is painted a colour or even neutral white gives the room and sleek modern feel. Below are suggestions on dressing up the window area when plantation shutters are in place.

How to Make the Plantation Shutters The Centre of Attention

Symmetry is how to make the shutters and the window the centre of attention in a room. Instead of just having the window to blend into the decor, make it stand out by placing items in symmetry around the window. For example, wall art is always useful with this, acquire a set of 4 to 6 items, it can be pictures, knick knacks, or even photos. Place them in direct symmetry on either side of the window, and this draws the attention to the window.

Give Plantation Shutters a Natural Look

While you may not want to use real flowers and greenery, you can use silk or plastic and create garland to lace over the top of the window frame. This makes a great way to match the decor with the seasons. Use fresh green colours with delicate blossoms for spring, use bold fall colours of leaves for autumn and for the holidays use garlands of every greens and holly.

Grab a Paint Brush

If you are handy and artistic, paint a makeshift tree on the wall surrounding the window. This will give the illusion that the outside is inside when the shutters are open. You could even go further by creating a cute bird’s nest and hanging it on the way on one of the branches. Other paint ideas – paint the wall to look like the sky with clouds, sun, rainbow, stars, moon, etc.

Still Want Curtains or Drapes?

If you are itching to hang curtains anyway, consider hanging a set that goes well on the outside of the plantation shutters. That way you can draw the curtains to the side and secure out of the way of opening the shutters. Of course, if you wish to decorate with sheers or a scarf, these look good over shutters too.
