Hi, I’m Jason from the brand Blockout Blinds and today I’m going to tell you all about why out custom roman blinds are absolutely the best in the industry.
00:15 – A sample to show you
Well first of all if you don’t know what a custom roman blind is or how it differs from a casual roman blind you can watch my other video where I talk about that, today I’m just talking about the little things we put in place that you might not notice that actually just gives that product a better finish.
So here is a custom roman blind, a little hand sample that we use to carry around to show in our clients homes and the first thing you need to know about our custom roman blinds is that they are completely hand made. The fabric is cut by hand, it’s sewn by hand on the sewing machine and a lot of labour goes into these to get the highest quality product.
00:58 – Can you see the join?
Some of the features we have and we’re known to do exceptionally well is firstly when you do a custom roman blind, generally you’re working with fabric that is around 1-1.2 metres wide which means any blind wider than that needs to have a join. We always carry around our samples with a join so you can see what the join looks like. Here is a plain one with a join and as you can see we do it quite well and we also specialise in really joining quite well when we have patterned fabric.
Now this sample here has a join in it, I’m not sure if you can tell where it is, I nearly can’t from this close, but it is right here. As you can see, we’ve matched the pattern up absolutely perfectly and to the eye, you can’t even tell that there is a join there. This is where a lot of companies don’t get this right as it takes years of practice and expertise to be really good at this.
02:04 – Cover the ugly bits
Let’s go back to the other sample, now that I’ve shown you the patterned one. What we also do is we make sure that when we put the fabric on, it goes all the way around the board at the top and we even cover the sides which a lot of other companies do not do.
02:22 – Is that a cord or a string?
With the cord that you use to pull the blind up and down with we use a pleated or plaited cord, not just an everyday piece of string, it’s a high quality cord which looks quite nice.
02:36 – 1, 2, 3 times folded
When it comes to the fabric for the back of the blind, our hems here are triple hemmed which means they are folded over 3 times before they are stuck on. These helps to prevent fraying on the inside and they are quite solid as well.
02:52 – High quality backing batten system
We use a batten system on the back which the cords go through a little plastic piece which means if the cord gets stuck when you pull the blind up you don’t break the blind, the plastic piece just pops off which can easily be clicked back on. It’s also been treated so that the sun won’t effect it, a lot of other companies use really cheap ones that last about two years before they degrade and pop off because they break.
Also what we do with the battens on the back, we bring them in from the edge. A lot of companies have the batten right on the outside so you can see the edge of it from the front, but we bring it in so it doesn’t look unsightly. The end caps that are on the end of the aluminium batten, they are slightly smaller than the batten diameter. What we do is pre-heat them, put some glue in them then slide them on when they are hot and they stick on and don’t come off. A lot of our competitors are known for this end cap to come off.
03:55 – You don’t want a fade out
This next feature is an uncommon one that no other companies really do this as you can see when the blind is in the up position, you can notice here that the last panel is actually hanging lower than the rest of the panels why is that? Well most companies make them all the same length and what happens when the sun shines from the outside and comes through and hits the bottom of all the panels, this can fade the fabric. When you pull the blinds down, you get these fade lines going across your blinds where the sun has faded it which does happen quite a bit. So what we’ve done by make that last panel a little lower than the rest you don’t get any pieces fading. On the bottom of the blind we put a piece of fabric on the inside of that layer which not many companies do.
05:00 – Pitch up your bottom swag
What you might have noticed on the other patterned blind which I’ll get again for you you can see we have a swag base on the bottom. Now this doesn’t fully hang properly because our blind sample is quite small so on a bigger blind it will hang better but you can see here that we have a unique way of folding these sway bases that allows them to sit beautifully and different to what most other companies do it.
05:33 – Only with Blockout Blinds
So there you have it, they are the majority of the features that we put in place with our custom roman blinds. Most companies don’t do any of these, some do a couple. That’s why as a business owner I can guarantee 100% that if you get a custom roman blind from us you will not get a better quality blind anywhere. This is why we are confident to offer on all of our blinds our 10 year 5 way guarantee.
05:58 – Summary
So I hope you’ve learnt a bit more about our custom roman blinds and some of the things to look for when you are deciding to buy one and hopefully you can see we put a lot of effort into this and we are really proud of them.
So until next time.
