There are many ways you can dress up your Plantation Shutters

Decorating Ideas for Plantation Shutters

Plantation shutters can go with a variety of decorating styles. They create nice clean lines and even though they are very old design (centuries) they offer a very modern flare. They look great in rooms that are modern and current in style, partly because they have made yet another comeback in the styles of new modern homes. When a home seeks to have a light and airy feel, there is nothing like placing white plantation shutters over the windows to complete the light and airy look. White reflects the light back, so even if the shutters are closed, they still offer light.

You don’t need a window to have plantation shutters

While plantation shutters work well to cover an actual window, they can be installed on a wall to give the appearance of a window. Think about rooms in a basement or an interior room that don’t have any windows. You can make a great statement by having a faux window installed with plantation shutters. When the shutters are open, they can view a mural, perhaps of a sunny meadow, an ocean scene, whatever you dream to have beyond the window. Add a recessed light above the shutter, so when it is open the light can illuminate the wall behind the shutter, to give the appearance of light shining through. Add the light just above the shutter to shine down over the top of the shutter.

Create a window in your garden

Use shutters in fence, or an outside wall. Create a garden paradise, divide the garden with walls, and add shutters to the walls. Make sure to paint or treat the shutters for weather extremes. Build walls around a terrace add shutters to the walls.

How about a plantation shutter door?

Use plantation shutters as doors. Build an inset bookcase within the wall and place the shutters over the bookcase. Do the same for cabinets, it gives quite a different look and feel to a kitchen or bath. Build a pantry and add shutters for the doors, stack them if it is tall enough.

Much more than just a window covering

As you can see, plantation shutters can do so much more than just cover windows. While they are a popular choice as window treatments, they add certain elegance to homes and to the decor. If you have a room that is tired and dated, add shutters to the windows for a quick and refreshing change in the room. Plantation shutters are a good choice for window treatments and for decorating outside of windows too.
