Hi I’m Jason from the company Blockout Blinds and today I’m going to be talking about when should you open your plantation shutters.

00:14 – Are you concerned about losing your view?

So here we have a plantation shutter and look before people get them one of the concerns they may have is losing their view and because of that they are very concerned that they will always want to open the shutters up to be able to see out the window. Yet what we’ve found is that everybody that had that concern it disappears when the shutter goes in as the shutter looks amazing and what they find is that when you have the louvres open your view is pretty much just as good as you’re looking out through the shutters. Yet the shutters are still there as a feature.

00:54 – So when do you swing open your shutters?

Well there are only 2 main reasons why you would open your shutters. The first reason you open it is to enable you to get to and open the window and then shut it again. The second reason which I don’t do very often and probably should do it a bit more is to clean the windows as you need to be able to get through and give them a wipe. So two reasons, cleaning the window and opening the window and maybe dusting as well.

01:31 – Avoid causing damage to your plantation shutters

To leave your plantation shutters hanging open as such, well one it doesn’t look very good as they are not designed to be that way. Also even through they may look like a door, they’re not. A door is solid all the way through where the shutters are only joined on the corners of the frame. So if you leave them hanging open, gravity will be pulling them down on the outside will actually cause distressed your shutter, they’re just not designed for that. We recommend all our clients that they do not leave them open for any length of time to ensure you don’t damage them over time.

02:08 – Summary

So there you have it, the good old plantation shutter, feel free to swing them open when you need to clean the glass or open the window but other than that leave them shut, enjoy how they look and use the louvres to control how you see the world outside.
