Why plantation shutters make fantastic insulators for keeping heat in or out

So we are going to be talking about Why Plantation Shutters are absolutely fantastic for insulation in your home. These days people become more and more conscious of heating bills, cooling bills etc. and we really need to find ways to reduce those costs. Plantation shutters are probably one of the best products for keeping out heat or keeping it in, vice-versa. And you might ask yourself why, well good question!

Timber is a natural insulator

The first reason is that plantation shutters, well especially the plantation shutters that we use are solid 100% timber. Timber is a natural insulator. Also, the shutter frame is about 25mm or 1-inch thick so it’s very thick.

Plantation Shutters Trap the Heat Inside or Outside

Another reason is that when we install a shutter in your home, let’s just say, imagine for example that this is your window frame. Generally, we’ll either mount the shutter in the recess of the window like such or we might face mount the shutter on the actual frame of the window so we might mount it on the front as such. Either way, when you have the louvres in close position and the shutter itself is shut. There is basically no gaps around the edge. No gaps on the louvres, no gaps between the window frame and the shutter. What this means is that it produces the airflow from behind the shutter into the room so it traps the heat outside or it traps the heat inside. Whereas with the blinds, you generally have fabric hanging down and it could be that far off the wall or if it’s the recess you might have a 10 or 15 mm gap between the edge of the fabric or the inside of the window frame.

So with blinds, the airflow still circulates. So plantation shutters are not only a fantastic looking product but the fact that it’s an inch thick, it’s made of timber and it’s installed in a way that there are very little gaps for the air to flow through. It makes one fantastic product to keep your home cool in summer and hot in winter. Thanks!
